2021-22 Extra Mile Pay

The Board of Education has approved approximately $4 million for the Extra Mile Pay program. This money is allocated to help acknowledge and reward educators for the work you do beyond the basic requirements of your job.

Extra Mile Pay is focused on compensating educators for time spent in the following categories:

  • Improving School Climate
  • Enhancing Student Interactions and Relationships
  • Improving Educator Knowledge and Skill
  • Enhancing Instructional Programs
  • Improving Parent/Community Outreach
  • Implementing School/Teacher Based Initiatives

(For definitions and examples of work in these categories, please see this link)

Applications for Extra Mile Pay will be available, on this website, beginning September 27, 2021 and will be due on Friday, November 19, 2021 by 11:59 p.m. All licensed educators are encouraged to apply for work that will be completed between June 4, 2021 and June 3, 2022. It is recommended that you apply using a desktop or laptop computer.

  • Applications will be scored according to this rubric.
    • Each application will be evaluated by two independent reviewers.
    • Reviewers will come from all levels and multiple subject areas and will evaluate applications from similar levels.
  • Applications will be limited to 500 words.
  • Educators may submit only one application, however work in multiple areas can be submitted in the same application.
  • Only individual applications will be accepted. However, work and projects can be coordinated and completed with colleagues. Applicants who are submitting similar or identical applications, in part or in whole, should reference this on the application.
  • Your award amount will depend on your rubric score. A maximum rubric score will be guaranteed $1,000. However, depending on the number of applications and total of all rubric scores, the FINAL AMOUNT WILL VARY and may be higher.
  • Extra Mile Pay will NOT be awarded to cover the cost of material or supplies. Educators who would like funds for materials or supplies, should consider applying for a grant through the Jordan Education Foundation website.
  • Educators may include professional development, classes, workshops, and conferences outside of contract time for which they will not otherwise be compensated (regular pay and/or stipend).

Educators will be notified via district email with the amount of their Extra Mile pay along with their rubric score and an explanation of how their Extra Mile Pay was calculated. It is anticipated that the review process will be finished by February 1st and notification of amounts will be completed by February 18th. Appeals will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on February 25, 2022. A short reflection will be REQUIRED prior to payment and will be due no later than April 14, 2022. Extra Mile Pay will be included in the May 2022 paycheck. Jordan School District Board Members and Principals will be notified of the applications and reflections.

The Jordan School District Board of Education is determined to reward educators who do excellent work and who are reflective, growth-oriented, and always seeking to improve now and in the future.

Thank you for your commitment to students. We look forward to hearing about your great work and achievements.
